About USA Wire
We explain the machinery behind American business
USA Wire is an independent business and financial publication based in the United States. We are not a wire service and we do not race to be first. Our work begins where the headline ends — with the accounting, the incentives and the evidence that decide what an announcement is actually worth.
What USA Wire is
We publish explanatory journalism about the mechanics of American commerce: how public companies set prices, how the Federal Reserve moves household portfolios, how a federal budget becomes law, and how a laboratory discovery turns into a product with a price attached to it.
When a company announces a restructuring, the news is the announcement; the story is the accounting, the severance economics and the historical evidence on whether such moves improve operating margins. That second story is the one we write. It takes longer, it is harder to headline, and it is the only kind of reporting we think is worth a reader’s time.
We write for people who have to act on what they read — operators, investors, founders, analysts and households making decisions with real money behind them. That audience sets our standard: if a piece cannot survive being checked by the reader, it does not run.
How we choose what to cover
Our editorial priorities are set by usefulness rather than volume. A subject earns a place on the schedule only when all three of these conditions are met.
It changes the numbers
The subject materially affects the finances of American readers or American businesses. Not interest — consequence.
It is widely misunderstood
There is a gap between what is commonly believed about the subject and what the record actually shows. That gap is the assignment.
It can be checked
It can be explained accurately using sources a reader is able to verify independently. Subjects that fail this test wait until better documentation exists.
The eight desks
Every desk is edited against the same standard of evidence. What changes between them is the subject matter, not the rigour.
Business
Corporate strategy, operating performance, restructurings and the economics of how companies actually make money.
Markets
Market structure and mechanism. We explain how prices are formed; we do not forecast them.
Technology
What a technology does, what it costs to run, and which claims about it are supported by deployment rather than announcement.
Leadership
Governance, succession, compensation and the management decisions that show up later in the accounts.
Money
Written for readers making personal financial decisions, and deliberately free of product recommendations.
Politics
Policy as it reaches balance sheets and households: budgets, rulemaking, regulation and enforcement.
Innovation
The path from research to product: funding, patents, manufacturing and the price the market finally pays.
Lifestyle
The consumer economy examined with the same discipline as the corporate one — spending, housing, work and time.
Our approach to evidence
Every article we publish is checked against primary material. In practice that means regulatory filings from the Securities and Exchange Commission, statistical releases from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, rulemaking dockets on the Federal Register, peer-reviewed research, court records and company disclosures — read directly rather than quoted from a summary.
Where a figure is contested, we say so and show both readings. Where the evidence is thin, we say that too. We would rather publish a narrower claim that holds than a broader one that does not.
What we will not do
- Publish price targets, buy or sell calls, or personalised investment advice.
- Report a company claim as fact without a document behind it.
- Let a commercial relationship influence what the newsroom covers.
- Quietly change a published article without labelling the change.
Independence and how we are funded
Advertising is separated from editorial
USA Wire is funded by advertising and sponsorship. Commercial partners have no access to the editorial schedule, no sight of stories before publication and no influence over what we cover or how we cover it. Any sponsored placement is labelled as such and is written or reviewed outside the newsroom. Our full commercial terms are set out on the Advertise With Us page.
Errors are corrected in public
We correct on the record. When we get something wrong, the article carries a dated correction notice describing what changed and why, and we do not remove the original claim silently. Anyone can report an error, and we assess correction requests on the evidence rather than on who is asking. The process is described in our corrections policy and our editorial policy.
How the newsroom works
USA Wire is a small operation by design. Fewer stories, checked harder.
Commission
A desk editor defines the question the piece has to answer and the documents that would settle it. Stories that cannot name their evidence are not commissioned.
Verification
Every material figure and claim is traced back to a primary source. Anyone described in a critical light is given a fair opportunity to respond before publication.
Edit and review
A second editor reads for accuracy, fairness and clarity, and removes anything the sourcing does not support. Corrections after publication are handled by the same desk.
